Richard W. Sears resigns as a railroad station agent in North Redwood, Minn., and forms the R.W. Sears Watch Company.

Alvah C. Roebuck joins Sears after answering a newspaper ad for a watch repairman.

Sears moves headquarters to Chicago from Minnesota.
