It is said that Kenmore's trash compactor is the first that the world has seen. Compactors can "compress all trash including bones, bottles and cans to ¼ its original volume."
 1971

Sears begins selling Kenmore microwave ovens.
 1973

Sears debuts Kenmore ranges with a continuous-cleaning feature. Ovens are made with a special coating so most splatters burn off during normal cooking.
 1977

Kenmore replaces Coldspot as the brand name for Sears' refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers.
 1978

In July 1978, Whirlpool manufactures its 1 millionth trash compactor. 

The 50 millionth Kenmore washer is sold.
