Sears introduces its first Kenmore vacuum cleaner with a full money-back guarantee. Ads ask, "Why should you pay $50 to $75 for a vacuum cleaner when the Kenmore costing only $24.50 will do everything any other cleaner will do?"

Sears introduces the Kenmore Toperator, designed by pioneer industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss. The Toperator marks a historic achievement in automatic washing machine technology, with wash, drain, and wringer controls in a central location for the first time and a speckled porcelain enamel finish.
