Q. We have a photograph from 1912 of my grandfather sitting in a buggy on his family farm. The buggy has a cover and a seat big enough for two people. He told me his father bought the buggy from Sears and the picture was taken the day they received it. Can you please tell me about the buggies Sears sold?

A. During the early part of the 20th century, Sears sold dozens of different models of horse-drawn carriages or buggies. Many of the buggies included a top and a seat for two people. Page 1324 from the fall 1911 general merchandise catalog features several buggies similar in style to the one you describe.
